MTN Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency, disclosing that it paid N48.6 billion in taxes in 2024. The telecom giant also urged for deeper collaboration between the public and private sectors to strengthen Nigeria’s tax regime and drive national development.
Speaking at a plenary session during the 27th Annual Tax Conference of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) in Abuja, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Modupe Kadri, stressed the importance of shared responsibility in building a fair and effective tax system.
“Tax compliance is critical to national development,” Kadri said. “At MTN Nigeria, we are fully committed to fulfilling our tax obligations because we understand the role they play in building a stronger country.”
He noted that MTN’s active participation in the conference underlines its position as a leading advocate for transparent, inclusive, and progressive fiscal reform. Kadri emphasized the need for policy clarity and simplified compliance, adding that tax revenues must be responsibly utilised for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Also speaking at the event, CITN President and Council Chairman, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, called for consistent dialogue between the government and private sector stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of tax policies.
He pointed out that Nigeria’s economic growth hinges on narrowing the gap between policy formulation and execution. “To realise our full economic potential, we must bridge the gap between policy and practice,” Agbeluyi said.
The conference, which convened tax professionals, regulators, and corporate stakeholders, focused on innovative strategies to reform Nigeria’s tax architecture in ways that promote accountability, transparency, and sustainable growth.
