Ilorin, Kwara State – Over 1,000 business operators around Kwara State Polytechnic are sounding the alarm, pleading with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to reinstate the suspended Rector, Dr. Engr. Abdul Jimoh, citing devastating economic consequences.
The appeal was contained in a press statement signed by the Concerned Business Operators within Kwara State Polytechnic Community and its Environs with a copy made available to Prime News on Sunday, 25th January, 2026 in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.
In the passionate appeal, the business owners recount how Dr. Jimoh’s leadership transformed their fortunes, bringing stability and prosperity to the area. “Before his administration, our businesses were on the verge of collapse,” they said. “But with his open-door policies and commitment to dialogue, we experienced improved institutional stability, reduced disruptions, and predictable academic activities, which restored customer flow.”
The operators, who include food vendors, stationery sellers, transporters, and artisans, say the Rector’s suspension has brought their livelihoods to the brink of disaster. “Closure of the Polytechnic, even for two weeks, has immediate economic consequences,” they warned. “Life is already becoming miserable, business activities are paralyzed, loan repayment is a burden, and our means of livelihood is being shut down.”
While acknowledging the students’ right to protest and the government’s responsibility to investigate, the business owners insist that Dr. Jimoh was a stabilizing force who worked tirelessly to prevent escalation. They fear that punitive actions taken before the conclusion of investigations may discourage proactive leadership and destabilize the institution further.
“We humbly plead and request that upon completion of investigations, the Rector be restored to office without delay,” they said. “This appeal is not about personalities; it is about livelihoods, stability, and shared progress.”
