The Higher National Diploma (HND) II students of the Department of Strategic Communication and Media Studies, Kwara State Polytechnic, launched a public awareness campaign against child abuse, aimed at combating various forms of child maltreatment prevalent in society.
The campaign highlights the urgent need to protect children’s rights and future, using compelling visuals and messaging to raise awareness about issues such as physical and emotional abuse, child labour, child trafficking, denial of education, and lack of access to healthcare.
Mrs. Halimah Ololu, the course lecturer, emphasized the importance of the campaign, which includes protecting the future of every child, ending child abuse, ensuring every child has a right to education, eradicating child labour, and promoting children’s rights as an individual responsibility.
The campaign also aims to abolish child trafficking and ensure adequate healthcare for every child. Students are encouraging stakeholders, including community members, parents, educators, and policymakers, to work together to create a safer environment for children.
The Department of Strategic Communication and Media Studies has pledged to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to drive positive change in their communities, specifically in preventing child abuse.
The campaign serves as a reminder that ending child abuse requires breaking the silence, reporting incidents, and advocating for policies that prioritize children’s rights and well-being.
