APC Chieftain Oyekunle Survives Alleged Assassination Attempt in Abuja

A former 2023 House of Representatives aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Ibraheem Bolarinwa Oyekunle, has recounted a harrowing assassination attempt on his life in Abuja. The attack occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025, while he was shopping at Gosa Market along Airport Road, returning from a trip.

According to a statement personally signed by Oyekunle, he noticed a suspicious ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with its number plate concealed. Moments later, a group of armed men approached and ordered him to surrender. “One aimed a gun at my head while others closed in with the same intention,” he recalled. Acting on instinct, Oyekunle charged at one of the attackers, which triggered chaos and gunfire.

Though he sustained a head graze and leg injury, Oyekunle managed to escape by running in the direction of fleeing traders. He was initially treated at Sauka Divine Hospital before being transferred to the Nigerian AirForce Hospital (NAF Base) in Abuja, where he received further care and has since been discharged.

He emphasized that the attackers made no demand for valuables, suggesting the motive was targeted and deliberate. “Their only command was for me to surrender. This was not robbery; it was an attempt to eliminate me,” he said.

Calling on the Inspector-General of Police and security agencies to launch a full investigation, Oyekunle urged for accountability and improved national security. He thanked medical staff and bystanders for their swift support and reassured his constituents in Irewole/Isokan/Ayedaade of his continued commitment to service despite the ordeal.
