The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has identified Abuja Steel Company, an iron smelting firm, as a suspected receiver of stolen manhole covers. Located along the Abuja-Kaduna Road, the company is at the center of an ongoing investigation into the theft and vandalism of sewage infrastructure .
According to Lere Olayinka, spokesman for the FCT minister, exhibits recovered from the company are currently in police custody. The administration is working to uncover the extent of the company’s involvement in the removal, purchase, and melting of the stolen manhole covers .
This development comes as part of a broader crackdown on vandalism in the capital city. Security agencies have made several arrests, and those detained have provided valuable information about the buyers involved in the theft and destruction of infrastructure .
In response to the vandalism, the FCT minister has directed the commencement of replacement works for the stolen manhole covers. The administration is working to restore damaged infrastructure and ensure the safety and well-being of residents .
