Tesla Lands in Africa: Casablanca Office Marks First Step in Continental Expansion

Tesla has officially arrived in Africa, opening its first office on the continent in Casablanca, Morocco. The move, long anticipated by electric vehicle enthusiasts and clean energy advocates, signals the start of Tesla’s deeper push into African markets.

The new office is located in the upscale Casablanca Marina business district and will serve as the headquarters of Tesla Morocco, which was formally registered as a legal entity on May 27, 2025. This marks the electric carmaker’s first direct footprint in Africa.

According to company sources, the Casablanca office won’t just handle car imports and sales—it will also manage EV servicing, solar installations, charging infrastructure, and Tesla’s energy storage solutions. It’s a wide-ranging portfolio aimed at tackling the multiple barriers to EV adoption across Africa.

Tesla’s quiet entry into Morocco began years earlier. Back in 2021, the company installed Hybrid Superchargers in Casablanca and Tangier, a subtle test of local interest. With the new office now active, Tesla is shifting from pilot mode to full market engagement.

Morocco has emerged as a natural starting point for Tesla in Africa. The country boasts a strong automotive supply chain, renewable energy investments, and investor-friendly policies. Its strategic location, especially near trade routes and European markets, makes it a gateway for deeper African operations.

In April 2025, Elon Musk confirmed plans to build Tesla’s first African factory near Kenitra, further cementing Morocco’s role in the company’s African vision. The new Casablanca office is expected to bridge the gap between infrastructure and local manufacturing.

Tesla Morocco is set to play a leading role in shaping an EV and clean energy ecosystem for the region. By pairing vehicle sales with charging and solar solutions, the company is addressing infrastructure gaps that have historically slowed EV adoption in many African countries.

If the strategy proves successful, Tesla’s Morocco model could serve as a template for future expansion into countries like South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, and Nigeria—markets with growing demand for clean transport and energy alternatives.

For now, Casablanca is where Tesla’s African journey begins.
