Lewandowski sidelines with hamstring injury, doubtful for Barcelona’s season opener

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has picked up a hamstring injury and is likely to miss the beginning of the La Liga season, the club confirmed on Friday.

“The first team player Robert Lewandowski has a hamstring problem in his left thigh,” Barcelona said in a statement, without specifying how long the Polish striker would be out of action.

The 36-year-old has been ruled “unavailable” for Sunday’s friendly against Como, raising doubts about his availability for Barcelona’s La Liga opener against Mallorca on August 16.

Lewandowski scored 42 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions last season, helping Hansi Flick’s Barcelona win the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Super Cup.
