The Lagos State Government and ICT experts have urged Nigerian youths to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool for solving societal challenges and shaping the future of work.
This call was made during the 2025 Commonwealth Day event, organized by Tantacom Group and the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) at the University of Lagos, Akoka. The event, themed *“AI, Youth, and the Future of Work,”* attracted hundreds of students and young professionals.
Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, emphasized AI’s transformative power in redefining productivity and creativity. “AI is an ally, not a threat. It empowers youth by offering tools to test and refine ideas swiftly,” he said. He highlighted AI’s role in business, from drafting proposals to developing marketing strategies, and pointed out emerging careers in AI ethics, data science, and machine learning.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting young AI enthusiasts. “AI is not the future; it is here and now. We must embrace it,” he stated.
Co-CEO of Tantacom Group, Mrs. Jennifer Odufuwa, echoed the sentiment, calling for collaboration and innovation to ensure inclusivity in the digital age. The event underscored the urgent need for Nigerian youths to leverage AI for career growth and societal advancement.
