Lagos State is gearing up to lead Nigeria into a new era of responsible technology as it prepares to unveil the country’s first official Artificial Intelligence (AI) guidelines in the coming weeks.
The announcement came from the State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, during the official launch of Dyna.Ai’s operations in Nigeria. The Singapore-based tech company specializes in AI-driven solutions for business optimization, with a focus on fintech.
Alake clarified that while the forthcoming guidelines won’t be formal laws just yet, they are a critical first step toward regulating the use of AI tools in a way that protects users and promotes ethical development. “We want to ensure that the AI products developed are ones we’ll be proud to let our children use,” he said.
The guidelines are part of a broader strategy by Lagos State to embrace artificial intelligence while setting a national tone for accountability and safety in tech deployment. Alake emphasized that AI must be handled with caution, not just to avoid potential harm, but also to uphold public trust.
He called on tech stakeholders, startups, developers, and corporate giants alike, to work together in defining how AI shapes society moving forward.
At the same event, Tokoni Peter Igoin, Special Assistant to the President on ICT Development and Digital Innovation, outlined the Federal Government’s complementary vision: fostering innovation that’s not only cutting-edge, but also ethical, transparent, and secure.
Meanwhile, Dyna.Ai’s Chairman, Tomas Skoumal, said Nigeria was the company’s gateway into Africa’s fast-growing tech ecosystem. With plans to invest in local talent and infrastructure, Dyna.Ai also introduced its Agentic AI suite for automating services like customer relations and human resources.
“We believe Africa’s moment is now, and Nigeria is at the heart of it,” Skoumal said.
