The Anambra State Government has banned the use of mobile phones by secondary school students to curb distractions and enhance academic performance.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, during the Anambra Schools’ Cultural Day celebration in Awka on Friday.
She directed school principals and teachers to confiscate any mobile phones found with students, emphasizing the need to maintain discipline and focus in the learning environment.
“The increasing use of mobile phones during school hours has become a serious distraction. To ensure students concentrate on their academic work, I am authorizing principals and teachers to seize any phones brought to school,” Ikediugwu stated.
She reaffirmed Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to improving education in the state, adding that instilling discipline among students was a key priority.
Beyond education, Ikediugwu highlighted the importance of preserving Igbo culture and values, urging schools to continue teaching students about their rich heritage, honesty, hard work, and respect for elders.
