In an effort to revive the fortunes of Kano Pillars Football Club, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa as the new General Manager of the club. The announcement was made on Monday following the dissolution of the club’s management board.
The change comes at the end of the outgoing board’s one-year tenure and is part of what the governor’s office described as a “strategic effort to reposition Kano Pillars for greater success.”
“This is more than just a reshuffle,” said Sanusi Tofa, spokesperson for Governor Yusuf. “It is a deliberate initiative to blend football experience with strong administration. The inclusion of Ahmed Musa reflects our desire to attract investment, inspire players, and reignite fans’ passion for the club.”
Ahmed Musa, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most decorated footballers, brings a wealth of experience to the role. The winger began his professional career at Kano Pillars before going on to play in the English Premier League with Leicester City, as well as stints in the Russian and Turkish leagues. He also captained the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, with distinction.
Reacting to his appointment, Musa expressed gratitude and excitement over the new chapter. “Kano Pillars has always been close to my heart,” he said.
“I’m honoured by this opportunity to contribute in a new capacity. We have great talent, a loyal fan base, and with the right structure, we can aim higher and compete for titles.”
The news has been met with widespread enthusiasm among fans and football stakeholders, many of whom still fondly remember Musa’s electrifying performances during his early days at the club.
His return in a leadership role is seen as both symbolic and strategic, with hopes that his global exposure and passion for the game will help reposition the team as a major force in Nigerian football.
Musa’s appointment signals a new era for Kano Pillars, as the club looks to combine seasoned football expertise with modern management in a bid to reclaim its status among Nigeria’s football elite.
