The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has strongly denied reports claiming it advised Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race or urged northern leaders not to support his candidacy.
In a statement on Tuesday, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, described the circulating claims as fabricated lies spread by “mischief-driven street urchins.”
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has been alerted to a misleading report circulating on social media alleging that the apex Igbo body warned Mr. Peter Obi against contesting the 2027 presidential election,” Chukwu stated.
He said the fake statement was authored by individuals he labelled “clandestine starving street urchins” operating a false version of Ohanaeze, with no official address or credibility.
Chukwu stressed that the real Ohanaeze, led by Senator John Azuta Mbata, Prince Okey Nwadinobi, and Emeka Sibeudu, had not issued any position regarding the 2027 elections.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is committed to the wellbeing of the Igbo nation and national development through justice, fairness, and equity,” the group said, reaffirming its non-partisan stance.
The group called on Nigerians and media outlets to disregard statements from “incurable mercenaries” falsely using the Ohanaeze name for political agendas.
