MTN Rebrands Fibre Broadband Service to FibreX, Targets 125,000km Network Expansion

MTN Nigeria has renamed its fibre broadband service from MTN Fibre Broadband to FibreX, marking a fresh chapter in the telecom company’s drive to deepen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

Unveiling the rebrand, MTN’s Chief Broadband Officer, Egerton Idehen, said the change goes beyond a name swap, it represents a renewed commitment to bridging Nigeria’s digital divide through better infrastructure and user-focused connectivity.

“The launch of FibreX reiterates our dedication to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation journey,” Idehen stated.

The service, which runs on MTN’s existing Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) infrastructure, is expected to play a crucial role in Nigeria’s push to expand its national fibre optic network.

Idehen revealed that MTN is aligned with the Federal Government’s plan to increase fibre coverage from 35,000km to 125,000km by laying an additional 90,000km of fibre across the country.

While the core infrastructure remains unchanged, Idehen said the new name “FibreX” was selected to better connect with customers, offering a more relatable and emotionally engaging identity.

“This is about more than just speed. It’s about educating and exciting consumers in home-passed locations, those already within our fibre coverage on the true value of FibreX,” he added.

With this rebrand, MTN hopes to not only expand its customer base but also help close the connectivity gap, one home at a time.
