The Kwara State Government has approved the active involvement of community-based organisations (CBOs) in the execution of infrastructural projects in public schools. This initiative aims to foster a culture of community ownership and ensure high-quality project delivery.
The Honourable Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe made this known during a meeting with leaders of Kwara CBOs. He emphasised the strategic role of these organisations in achieving durable and impactful school infrastructure across the state.
According to Dr. Olohungbebe, “The administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains committed to deepening community engagement. This commitment underscores the continued involvement of Kwara CBOs in delivering good governance across key sectors, including education and community development.”
The Commissioner urged CBOs to serve as critical partners by monitoring school infrastructure projects within their communities and providing timely feedback to the ministry. This, he said, would support the government’s quality assurance efforts while encouraging communities to take full ownership of public facilities.
In their responses, Mallam Hussain Nda Muhammad, the coordinator of CBOs in Patigi Local Government Area said that, “We are ready to work with the Ministry as we worked with your office as SSA, Community Development and we are sure of getting a better result this time.”
Mallam Rasheed Ajao, Coordinator of Ilorin East Local Government CBOs, applauded the government for its ongoing collaboration with grassroots groups. He stressed the importance of acting swiftly on feedback provided by the CBOs.
Engineer Abdulfatai Yusuf, Coordinator of Offa Local Government CBOs, called on the government to ensure CBOs have access to timely and accurate information on ongoing projects in their areas to facilitate proper monitoring.
