The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to training and equipping Nigerian students with essential digital skills required to function effectively in the digital space as well as become globally competitive.
Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, stated this during the inauguration of the new National Executive Officers or National Association of University Students (NAUS) held in Abuja.
The Minister, who was represented by Kaka Balarabe, emphasized the importance of skill acquisition and assured the students that his administration would prioritize equipping Nigerian students at all levels with relevant skills needed to drive national development.
He charged the students to embrace digital literacy to remain relevant in today’s world of work.
“We are in the information and digital age. Digital literacy is one of the key pillars of the Federal Ministry of Education under the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa. Every Nigerian student should have basic digital device skills,” Balarabe stated.
The event with the theme, “Transforming the Mentality of University Students Through Digital Skills, Cybersecurity, and Entrepreneurship,” brought together students, dignitaries, and key stakeholders.
Present at the inauguration were Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Sonny S.T, Echono; Representative of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, Kaka Balarabe; NAUS, National President, Josiah Peter Oche; students, and other distinguished guests.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of an award of excellence to Student Energy in recognition of its unwavering commitment to student welfare, skill acquisition, and the promotion of green skills among Nigerian students.
