A Non-Governmental Organization, Foundation for Neuromuscular Support (FNSN)has announced plan to embark on a nationwide massive awareness on rare diseases to educate the general public, healthcare professionals, and policymakers about the unique challenges faced by rare disease patients, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, effective management, and social support.
The foundation in a statement signed by the project coordinator, Adefila Oloruntoba said that the project is aimed at raising awareness about neuromuscular disorders, promoting education, as well as providing support to those affected.
He disclosed that M.A.R.D NIGERIA is taking a grassroots approach to reaching individuals and communities that often lack access to critical health education, to dispel misconceptions and reduce the stigma surrounding rare diseases.
Oloruntoba explained further that the mission of the campaign is to raise awareness about rare diseases, particularly those affecting neuromuscular health in Abia, Delta, Kaduna, Kwara, and Osun states.
The proposed event scheduled to kickstart on Friday, February 21st, and end on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025, is expected to feature: Awareness program in secondary schools on day 1, and M.A.R.D Nigeria Walk from Maraba to Unity Road on Tuesday.
