The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious syndicate of impostors posing as police officers, who have been extorting innocent citizens and engaging in various criminal activities within Kano and nearby states.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists.
He stated that on October 16, 2025, at about 1:00 pm, operatives from the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) swiftly apprehended the suspects while they were posing as police officers.
Those arrested include Aliyu Abbas, Sani Iliyasu, Ashiru Sule, Abubakar Yahaya, and Adamu Kalilu. The suspects were caught with several incriminating items such as a fake police warrant card, handcuffs, mutilated naira notes of various denominations, 2,500 CFA, and their operational vehicle, a blue Peugeot 406 with registration number NSR-188-BD.
SP Kiyawa revealed that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple acts of impersonation, admitting to using the fake warrant card to extort innocent citizens and engage in other illegal activities across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna States.
He confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
