Streaming platform Spotify has unveiled its list of the ‘Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists Over the Last 12 Months,’ with Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr claiming the top spot.
Describing her as “the pop star of Afrobeats,” Spotify praised Ayra’s dominance in the genre.
Grammy winner Tems secured the second spot, while American-Cameroonian artist Libianca came in third.
Malian-French singer Aya Nakamura secured the fourth spot, with British-Nigerian artist Darkoo rounding out the top five.
Surprisingly, South African star Tyla was absent from the list, despite sweeping major Afrobeats awards over the past year.
Spotify also unveiled its list of the Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America,a lineup exclusively dominated by Nigerian acts.
Rema is number one of the list, Ayra Starr took the second spot, while CKay completes the top 3.
Burna Boy and Wizkid are number 4 and 5, respectively.
