Eleven individuals abducted from Kaibaba village in Turba Ward of Isa Local Government Area, Sokoto State, have been rescued from a forest in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims, including seven women, three babies, and one male teenager, were freed by security operatives in a breakthrough operation against banditry and handed over to the Sokoto State Government on Tuesday.
Speaking during a reception at the Government House in Sokoto on Wednesday, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Gobir, commended the security personnel for their bravery and swift response.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Ahmed Aliyu-led administration to addressing security challenges in the state, stressing that the safety of lives and property remains the government’s top priority.
“The administration has never relented in supporting all security initiatives aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of our people,” Gobir said.
As part of government support, the deputy governor announced a donation of ₦100,000, a bag of millet, and a bag of maize to each of the rescued victims.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Isa Local Government Area, Alhaji Sherifu Kamarawa, expressed appreciation to the state government for the prompt response and kind gesture. He described the intervention as a clear demonstration of genuine concern for the welfare and security of the people.
The successful rescue operation is the latest in ongoing efforts by the Sokoto State Government and security agencies to rid the state and its surroundings of criminal elements.
