A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Oyedele Alao, has expressed confidence that the party will reclaim power in the state during the 2027 general election.
Alao, who previously contested under the Alliance for Democracy in 2019 and sought the APC ticket in 2023, said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and Governor Seyi Makinde would not stop the APC from returning to office.
Oyo State was under the control of the APC until 2019, when Makinde won the governorship election for the PDP and secured re-election in 2023.
Speaking recently, Alao said the APC had overcome internal divisions and was now united and strategically positioned to win the next election.
“Governor Makinde has had over six years in office, yet the living conditions of the people have not improved. His administration has been marked by mismanagement and misplaced priorities,” he said.
“We will take Oyo back. The APC is no longer divided. We are re-energised, focused, and speaking with one voice. And in 2027, the people will return us to power.”
Alao claimed the PDP’s grip on the state is weakening, noting that many of its members are defecting to the APC. He believes this trend will continue as the elections approach.
“People are tired of empty promises. The masses are beginning to see through the failures of this administration. With the growing discontent and the realignments within the APC, even Makinde won’t be able to stop the tide,” he said.
He also expressed strong belief in President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, stating that Tinubu would win more votes than he did in 2023.
Sharing details about his background, Alao said his aspiration to govern Oyo State is driven by a combination of global exposure and local commitment. He noted that he has been active in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector since 1993, serving in various roles such as Project Engineer, Facilities Engineer, and Project Manager.
