President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, as the new chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.

The appointment, which was confirmed on Friday, is part of a fresh wave of leadership changes approved by the President across several federal agencies and commissions.

Muhammad Babangida, 53, brings a strong academic and professional background to the role. Alongside Babangida’s appointment, President Tinubu also approved new leadership for various key institutions, including the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, the National Educational Research and Development Council, and the Standard Organisation of Nigeria.

Others affected by the reshuffle include the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa, and the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations.

The new heads also include appointees to the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission and the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission.

According to the Presidency, the appointments are aimed at reinvigorating the leadership structure of vital federal agencies and aligning them with the administration’s renewed commitment to good governance, economic development, and institutional efficiency.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on July 18, 2025.
