Suspected bandits have attacked Bunyun community in Wase LGA, Plateau State, abducted three people including two palace staff and burning of multiple homes.
The community’s paramount ruler, Abdulbari’u Muhammad, confirmed the attack, linking it to a recent clash between vigilantes and bandits. He said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, looted food, clothing, and motorcycles before fleeing.
“We are completely confused and don’t know what to do, which is why we fled to Bashar. Everybody has fled because people are afraid to remain in the area”
He identified the abducted palace officials as Waziri & Wakili, his younger brother
Some villagers said the community had been deserted, with residents fleeing to nearby towns, including Bashar, for safety.
A resident of the area, Abubakar Zubairu, confirmed the incident, saying, “The community was deserted on Thursday morning following the Wednesday night attack.”
Muhammad stressed the urgent need for government intervention through the deployment of adequate security personnel to the area, noting that farmers’ livelihoods are at risk.
“Our crops have already been planted, and we’re deeply concerned about our farms. We need the government’s help with security so we can return safely and protect our means of survival,” he said.
The attack underscores the rising insecurity in Plateau communities and the pressing need for swift action to safeguard lives and property. As of press time, spokespersons for Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, and the State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, had yet to respond to calls and messages.
