Tragedy Strikes Football: Liverpool Star Diogo Jota, Brother Killed in Fiery Crash Days After Wedding

Diogo Jota, star forward for Liverpool and Portugal, has tragically died aged 28 in a car accident in Spain, along with his brother André Silva. The accident occurred in the early hours on the A‑52 near Zamora, when their vehicle veered off the road and burst into flames .

Jota married his long-term girlfriend, Rute Cardoso, on June 22—just 11 days before the crash . He leaves behind his wife and their three young children, and his brother, who also passed away, had been playing for Portugal’s Penafiel side .

A dynamic attacker, Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and featured in 182 matches, scoring 65 goals. He played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s 2024–25 Premier League title win, as well as their FA Cup and League Cup triumphs, and earned 49 caps for Portugal
