Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the public for the first time following his suspension, assuring residents of his commitment to governance despite ongoing political turmoil.
In a statement on Tuesday, Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to security, development, and constitutional order, stressing that his actions had always been guided by his oath of office.
He highlighted his efforts to maintain stability in the state, including compliance with the Supreme Court ruling and President Bola Tinubu’s peace intervention. According to him, his decision to reinstate resigned commissioners was made in good faith to restore normalcy.
However, the governor accused members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of frustrating peace efforts and obstructing governance. He noted that despite political disagreements, salaries were being paid, and key projects were ongoing to ensure progress in the state.
While acknowledging the challenges facing his administration, Fubara assured residents that Rivers State remained safe and secure under his leadership. He urged citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding, vowing to engage with relevant institutions to protect democracy and ensure continued development.
“We have always been a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” Fubara said.
The crisis in Rivers State has escalated in recent months, with deep divisions between the executive and legislative arms of government. Despite the political tension, Fubara insists that his priority remains the well-being of Rivers people.
The governor concluded his address with a call for unity, assuring residents that his administration would continue to work towards peace and stability.
