Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has shut down following the tragic death of five students in a motor accident.
The crash occurred on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Balogun Area, Ikire, involving a luxury bus from Ibadan and an 18-passenger bus from Osogbo. A head-on collision resulted in ten fatalities, including five UNIOSUN students.
The deceased students were identified as Olagbemide Dotun (Software Engineering, 200L), Suleiman Farouq Adedayo (Law, 400L), Ogundare Pelumi (Public Health, 300L), Ogundare Elijah (Mechanical Engineering, 100L), and Olawuyi Mary (Nursing, 200L). Notably, Pelumi and Elijah were siblings.
The university expressed deep sorrow, stating that a team was dispatched to assist affected students. Authorities, including the Nigerian Police and FRSC, are investigating the cause of the crash.
