Blood on the Highway: 12 Killed, 19 Injured in Abuja-Kaduna Ambush

A devastating attack on a bus traveling from Abuja to Kaduna has left at least 12 people dead and 19 others injured. The incident occurred on Friday night when suspected youths from Mangun village in Plateau State ambushed the vehicle, which was carrying passengers mainly from Zaria’s Basawa community to a wedding party.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen blocked the bus and opened fire before setting it ablaze. Survivors attempted to flee as the vehicle was torched, with some managing to escape while others were severely injured. Authorities confirmed that eight bodies were initially recovered, with additional victims found later, bringing the total death toll to 12.

Nineteen people are currently receiving medical treatment, and two passengers remain unaccounted for, believed to have been abducted by the attackers. The motives behind the attack are still unclear, but suspicions point to cultists or ethnically motivated youths.

A joint security operation has been launched, involving the Nigerian Army, Police, Navy, and Civil Defence. The security forces have initiated investigations and manhunts for the perpetrators.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the community, and authorities are working to bring the perpetrators to justice.
