The Minister For Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande has commiserated with the government of Kano State and families of about twenty (20) athletes who lost their lives in an accident while returning home from the just concluded Gateway Games in Ogun State, described it sad and painful.
The Minister in a statement on 1st June, 2025, expressed grief over the passing of the young souls, adding that they were not just athletes but also the very reflection of youthful potential and determination.
“I cannot imagine the extent of anguish and pain the passing of these promising lives would leave in our hearts, especially with their dreams still unravelling. But I urge families, teammates, coaches, and the entire sports community who grieve this unfortunate incident to take solace in the ultimate will of God who decides the faith of all mortals.” the minister furthered.
“The commitment, pride and passion with which they represented their State and this nation would forever be remembered by sport loving Nigerians.” He said.
Comrade Ayodele however prayed, that the souls of the departed find peace with God, and may Almighty grant strength and comfort to all those affected by the profound tragedy.
