A tragic accident claimed the lives of a family of three on Wednesday along the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja, following a confrontation with suspected louts.
According to eyewitness accounts, the private vehicle was stopped by the louts for allegedly violating an informal rule by picking up a relative as a passenger. When the driver refused to pay the demanded “fine,” the situation escalated.
The louts reportedly forced their way into the vehicle and attempted to seize control of the steering wheel, leading to a fatal crash that killed the family on the spot.
Enraged by the incident, bystanders pursued the attackers. One of the louts was caught and set ablaze, while two others were severely beaten before being rescued by the police and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A different account, however, stated that five individuals were involved in the crash a couple and three touts who allegedly jumped into the moving vehicle.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle later collided with a painted taxi near the Mabushi Bridge before skidding off the road into a ditch.
The couple reportedly died on the spot, while the three others were rescued and taken to the bn National Hospital for treatment.
