President Bola Tinubu has lifted the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State and reinstated Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, marks the end of six months of federal control that followed a prolonged political crisis between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
In his directive, President Tinubu ordered Fubara to resume office on Thursday, September 18. Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu was also reinstated, while members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were instructed to return to their legislative duties.
The presidency is expected to release further details on the reinstatement and the conditions surrounding the lifting of the emergency rule in the coming hours.
