Tech Awareness Fest 1.0 Ignites Innovation, Empowers Nigerian Youth

A diverse crowd of industry experts, students, academics, and tech enthusiasts recently gathered in Lagos for the launch of Tech Awareness Fest 1.0, an initiative by the Prime Innovation Institute of Technology (PIIT) aimed at fostering technology awareness and innovation in Nigeria.

Themed “Unlocking Innovation, Inspiring Tomorrow,” the festival served as a platform to empower young Nigerians with knowledge of emerging technologies. Speaking at the event, PIIT Chairman Joe Ebinum announced that the Tech Awareness Fest would become an annual event, helping to bridge the digital skills gap.

“Our goal is to mentor young people and help them realize their potential through technology. While the government is making progress in the sector, institutions like PIIT must collaborate to fully unlock opportunities for Nigerian youth,” Ebinum stated.

He highlighted that technology cuts across multiple fields, including software engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, networking, and robotics. He encouraged young people not to fear the challenges of the digital era, assuring them that mentorship and training opportunities exist to support their growth.

Tech sales expert Kobi Agwu from Beyond Strides Ltd underscored the rapid expansion of the global tech market, projected to hit ₦5 trillion this year. He pointed out that emerging fields like cloud computing, machine learning, software engineering, and app development are in high demand, providing vast opportunities for Nigerian youth.

“The demand for skilled tech professionals is rising globally. Acquiring expertise in these areas ensures relevance in any part of the world,” Agwu emphasized.

Business and Leadership Coach Daniel Adeniyi stressed the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future, urging Nigerian youth to master AI-driven technologies.

“AI will soon play a crucial role in every industry, from business and finance to education and healthcare,” Adeniyi remarked.

PIIT Executive Director Kate Ebinum reinforced the message, highlighting that technology is no longer optional but essential for career growth and national development.

“Technology impacts every aspect of life, from education and healthcare to business and entertainment. Whether you’re an entrepreneur leveraging digital tools or a student exploring AI, technology is shaping our collective future,” she noted.

The Tech Awareness Fest 1.0 set the stage for a new era of digital empowerment in Nigeria, inspiring young innovators to embrace emerging technologies and seize global opportunities.
