Members of the House of Representatives have contributed N705 million from their salaries to support the Federal Government’s humanitarian programs. This donation, representing 50% of their salaries for six months, was announced during an Iftar event hosted by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s leadership and reaffirmed the lawmakers’ commitment to national progress. He emphasized that the funds would assist in humanitarian efforts and aid vulnerable Nigerians.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaking on behalf of the President, urged legislators to prioritize national unity over political differences. He reminded them that leadership is a sacred trust and encouraged them to embrace their roles with humility and dedication.
Shettima also highlighted the administration’s economic recovery, stating that Nigeria is now on a path to sustained growth. He assured citizens that the government’s policies are beginning to yield positive results.
The Vice President commended the House leadership for maintaining legislative harmony and called on them to govern with fairness and justice.
This donation reflects a collaborative effort between the legislature and the executive in addressing national challenges and improving citizens’ welfare.
