Policeman’s stray bullet kills WAEC candidate in Ibadan

A WAEC candidate was fatally hit by a stray bullet on Tuesday morning in Ibadan during a high-speed police chase. The bullet was reportedly fired by a police officer.

The incident occurred at Gbagi Market Road in Ibadan, where the officer was in pursuit of a fleeing vehicle suspected to be occupied by alleged internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo Boys.”

Unfortunately, one of the bullets fired missed its target and hit the student, who was riding on a motorcycle with his twin brother.
The boy was on his way to take the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination at the time.

He was quickly taken to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

In response to the tragedy, market traders and sympathisers protested by bringing the boy’s remains to the Oyo State Secretariat, demanding justice.

At the time of filing this report, security personnel had been stationed at the entrance of the government secretariat to manage the growing crowd, as protesters demanded accountability and reforms in police procedures.

Neither the Oyo State Police Command nor the state government had released an official statement regarding the incident.
