Security operatives have arrested five suspects over alleged involvement in kidnapping and drug trafficking in Kwara State.
Two of the suspects, Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both from Saliku in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, were apprehended for smuggling cannabis. The other three, Mohammed Abubakar and Hussein from Tsaragi, along with Tukur Ibrahim — a known kidnapping suspect — were arrested for alleged involvement in kidnapping activities.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Ilorin on Saturday. She noted that the operation was carried out in collaboration with operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), and local vigilante groups, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on crime and drug trafficking in the state.
“The joint operation, carried out on 26th September 2025 at about 1600hrs along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode axis, of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, led to the interception of a vehicle loaded with tubers of yams, under which 127 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis were concealed.
”Two male suspects, Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim both of Saliku, Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, were arrested in connection with cannabis smuggling.
“In a related development, the operatives also apprehended Mohammed Abubakar and Hussain, both from Tsaragi, and Tukur Ibrahim a notorious kidnapper, who were involved in the invasion of Babanla on 08/08/25. After a discreet investigation, the suspects will be arraigned in court,” the statement said.
