The Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to potable water, emphasizing collaboration with key stakeholders.
Speaking in Ibadan during this year’s World Water Day, the agency’s chairman, Babalola Afobaje, highlighted the state government’s continued investments in water infrastructure under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration since 2019.
He stressed the importance of climate-resilient infrastructure and strong policies to secure water access for all residents.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, Glacier Preservation, Afobaje underscored the urgent need to protect glaciers, warning that their rapid melting poses global environmental threats. While Nigeria does not have glaciers, he noted that their loss contributes to rising sea levels, extreme weather, and freshwater shortages, which could indirectly impact the country.
World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, raises awareness about the global water crisis and promotes Sustainable Development Goal 6, which seeks to ensure water and sanitation for all by 2030.
