More than 570 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sabuwar Dan Masara, a community in Dutse, Jigawa State, have officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s leadership and direction.
At a gathering held on Friday to mark the defection, the leader of the group, Mustapha Adamu, popularly known as Shugaba, said their decision was driven by the growing hardships in the country and the need for a more responsive political platform.
“We can no longer remain in a party that has drifted away from fairness, justice, and the interest of the people,” he said. “We believe the PDP stands for the kind of positive change Nigerians truly need.”
Adamu, who hails from Madobi Ward, criticized the APC for sidelining the voices of ordinary citizens and failing to address pressing national issues. According to him, the defectors see the PDP as a party with a clear vision for progress and national development.
He called on other like-minded APC members to take a similar step, urging them to join the PDP in building a future that serves the people. “Together, we can work for the kind of Nigeria we all deserve,” he added.
Adamu also expressed optimism about the PDP’s chances in the 2027 general elections, saying the party’s message of hope, inclusion, and unity would resonate with the electorate.
Welcoming the new members, the deputy PDP chairman in Jigawa State, Umar Danjani, who represented the state chairman at the event, described the defection as a major boost for the party.
“This is a significant moment for us. The growing support we’re receiving across the state is proof that Nigerians are ready for a new direction,” Danjani said.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing Jigawa and the country at large, promising that the party would continue to develop policies that uplift the people, regardless of their background or political history
