Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen made history on Tuesday by becoming the first Nigerian player to score double-digit goals in UEFA Champions League history.
Osimhen netted the decisive first-half penalty in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Rams Park, handing Arne Slot’s men a tough defeat.
Heading into the match, the 24-year-old was tied on nine goals with former Inter Milan forward Obafemi Martins. His strike against the Premier League champions takes his tally to 10, making him Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the competition.
The 26-year-old is ahead of the likes of Victor Ikpeba (7 goals), Ahmed Musa (6 goals), Nwankwo Kanu (5 goals), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (5 goals), Ademola Lookman (5 goals), and Samuel Chukwueze (4 goals).
Osimhen scored the 10 Champions League goals for three different clubs — Lille (2 goals), Napoli (7 goals), and Galatasaray (1 goal) across 18 Champions League appearances.
