The Ondo State Government has set up a security joint task force (JTF) to address growing security challenges, following a series of deadly attacks by suspected bandits and kidnappers. The move comes days after gunmen stormed the Aba Oyinbo Community in Akure North Local Government Area, killing five farmers and sparking protests in Akure, the state capital.
The state Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adeleye, announced the establishment of the task force on Sunday in Akure, explaining that it includes personnel from the Nigerian Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Amotekun. He assured farmers and residents that normalcy had been restored to affected areas and that Amotekun security posts would be set up in remote locations to prevent further attacks.
In an ongoing crackdown, the Amotekun Corps arrested 32 suspected kidnappers across Akure South, Akure North, Ose, and Akoko North-East Local Government Areas. The suspects were apprehended in forest reserves notorious for criminal activities.
Adeleye emphasized that security operatives, including Amotekun personnel, were actively patrolling troubled areas to ensure lasting peace and prevent a resurgence of violence.
