The Onikanga community in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State witnessed a moment of pride and transformation yesterday as the Ceejay Community Personal Development Project was officially commissioned.
The project, themed “Promoting Hygiene and Community Well-Being through the Renovation and Modernization of the Public Toilet Facility in Onikanga Village,” was executed by a serving corps member, Adeyeye Joshua Adejare, popularly known as Ceejay, under the NYSC’s Community Development Service (CDS).
The commissioning ceremony, held on Monday, October 27, 2025, attracted key guests and dignitaries, including the Local Government Inspector (LGI), Mr. Oluwaseyi; CDS Officer, Mrs. Joseph; representatives from the NYSC State Secretariat led by Mr. Niyemel Samuel; members of the press from NTA Ilorin, Kwara TV, and Flow FM 92.7; as well as community leaders, fellow corps members, and residents of Onikanga village.
The event began with an opening prayer by Mrs. Opaleke, followed by the national anthem and the NYSC anthem.
The convener of the initiative, as fondly called Ceejay, gave an introduction and welcome remarks.
In his speech, he appreciated the support received from his sponsors, the NYSC officials, and the community, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, discipline, and maintaining good relationships at one’s Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).
Ceejay expressed gratitude to his Local Government Inspector, the CDS officer, and the representatives of the state coordinator for their continuous guidance and encouragement throughout the project’s execution.
Community representative Mallam Abdulakeem Ahmed Lawal commended the young corps member’s selfless effort, describing the initiative as a sign of renewed hope and progress for Onikanga village.
The highlight of the event included a poem presentation by Miss Tobiloba, which centred on service, resilience, and the values of the NYSC scheme.
Delivering his remarks, *Mr. Niyemel Samuel*, representative of the NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, lauded the project and appreciated the media houses and stakeholders who supported the initiative. He noted that personal CDS projects like Ceejay’s reflect the true spirit of community development and the objectives of the NYSC scheme.
He further praised Ceejay’s dedication and encouraged other corps members to emulate his passion for community service.
Also, the community leaders, under its Magaji leadership, presented a certificate of good work to Ceejay in appreciation.
The project was officially commissioned by Mr. Samuel, alongside the Magaji of Onikanga Village.
NYSC officials, community members, and fellow corp members inspected the renovated toilet facility, which now stands as a model of hygiene and modernization in the community.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the rendition of the NYSC anthem, marking a memorable day for both the corps community and residents of Onikanga.
