Nigeria, Jamaica Strengthen Aviation Ties, Explore Direct Flight Route

Nigeria and Jamaica are advancing discussions on establishing a direct flight route as part of efforts to enhance their Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA).

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo met with Jamaica’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Lincoln Downer, in Abuja to explore deeper diplomatic and aviation ties. Downer highlighted Jamaica’s growing interest in Nigerian culture, including Afrobeat and Nollywood, stressing the need for direct connectivity between both nations.

Keyamo welcomed the initiative, pledging to set up a committee to fast-track the process and expressing readiness to visit Jamaica for further negotiations. Downer also proposed integrating Jamaica’s BASA with Trinidad and Tobago to address air service gaps, given Jamaica’s lack of a national carrier.

The move is expected to boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between both countries.
