Man United Reignite Victor Osimhen Talks After Missing Out on Gyökeres

Manchester United have reopened negotiations with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen after their latest setback in the transfer market,

With Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres opting for a move to Arsenal, and Liam Delap also out of reach, the Red Devils have returned to their long-standing interest in Osimhen as they search for a proven No. 9 to lead the line next season.

According to FootMercato, United have already made contact regarding both the financial and transfer details of the deal. The Premier League giants are reportedly willing to offer Osimhen a lucrative €12 million (£10.2 million) annual salary — a significant climbdown after previously balking at his wage demands.

The club is also said to be preparing a bid of around €75 million (£63.8 million), including bonuses, to Napoli. While that falls short of the €78.9 million (£67.2 million) Napoli paid Lille in 2020, it could be enough to close the deal, especially given the fractured relationship between Osimhen and the Italian club’s hierarchy.

After a blistering 2022/23 season, where Osimhen fired 26 goals in 32 Serie A matches to power Napoli to a historic Scudetto, his form took a hit amid internal friction. He was frozen out under Antonio Conte last summer and subsequently loaned to Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he rekindled his form with 37 goals and eight assists in just 41 appearances.

His exploits in Turkey have made Galatasaray eager to sign him permanently, but the financial muscle of Premier League clubs could be decisive.

Despite receiving a lucrative offer from Saudi side Al Hilal, Osimhen turned down the move — signalling his continued ambition to compete at the highest level in Europe.

Liverpool have also been linked with the 26-year-old, though Manchester United’s renewed approach may give them a head start.
