Liverpool Agree £79m Deal for Eintracht Frankfurt Striker Hugo Ekitike

Liverpool have reached a full agreement to sign French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth £79 million (€91 million), as the Premier League champions continue their high-profile summer rebuild.

Ekitike is expected to arrive in the UK on Tuesday for his medical and to finalise personal terms on a six-year contract. A contingent of Liverpool staff have remained in the country specifically to complete the transfer before the player joins the squad in Asia for their pre-season tour later this week.

The 22-year-old becomes Liverpool’s fifth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. His addition brings the club’s total summer spending to £289 million, with more moves reportedly in the pipeline.

Ekitike had been the subject of interest from Newcastle United, who saw a £70 million bid rejected last week—well short of the striker’s release clause. Liverpool moved swiftly to secure his signature, reinforcing their forward line amid speculation of interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward enjoyed a standout season with Frankfurt, scoring 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions, including 15 in the Bundesliga. His performances earned him a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

Ekitike’s career has seen a rapid rise since his early days at Stade de Reims. He joined PSG on an initial loan before making the move permanent, but struggled for game time in Paris, scoring just four goals in 33 appearances before finding form in Germany.
