The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and other partners, is set to vaccinate over 80,000 children during the third round of the Big Catch-Up campaign.
Scheduled for April 12 to 17, 2025, the campaign aims to bridge immunization gaps, especially among children who missed routine vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Professor Nusirat Elelu, announced this during a stakeholders’ meeting.
She emphasized the importance of immunization as a proven, cost-effective public health intervention that prevents millions of child deaths annually.
The campaign will be conducted in Baruten, Ilorin East, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas—regions identified with a high number of unimmunized children. Vaccinations will be available in health facilities and outreach posts across all settlements in these LGAs.
Prof. Elelu urged parents, caregivers, religious leaders, and schools to support the campaign by ensuring that all children aged 0–5 years receive their vaccinations.
She reassured the public of the vaccines’ safety and effectiveness, highlighting that the initiative is free and part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the health of mothers and children across Kwara State.
