The Kwara State Government has commenced the construction of a new office complex in Ilorin as part of ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and working conditions of public and civil servants in the state.
The project, located beside the Deputy Governor’s Office at the Government House, Ilorin, was officially handed over to the contractor, Mapet Construction Ltd., during a brief ceremony on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, said the project reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to modernising public infrastructure and enhancing governance.
He dismissed reports suggesting the state was constructing a new Government House as false and misleading, clarifying that the structure is strictly meant for administrative use.
Ogunsola explained that the proposed one-storey building will accommodate multiple office spaces, a conference room, and other key facilities aimed at addressing existing infrastructure gaps in the state’s civil service.
According to the Commissioner, the Ministry will supervise the project closely to ensure adherence to quality standards and timely completion within the agreed one-year timeframe.
The handover ceremony was attended by top government officials, including the General Manager of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency, QS Raheem Abdulbaki, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaja Risikat Atinuke.
Also present were representatives of the project consultant, Baron Architecture, led by Adepeju Ogunsakin, and Architect Awolola Emmanuel Tolulope, who represented Mapet Construction Ltd.
Tolulope assured the gathering that the construction firm would deliver a high-quality building and complete the project within schedule, citing the company’s proven capacity and experience.
The new office building is expected to further strengthen institutional coordination and enhance the delivery of public services across all sectors of the state.
