The Gwaram Local Government Council in Jigawa State has procured 100 bundles of fabric to clothe 600 male orphans ahead of the upcoming Sallah celebration.
Announcing the initiative on Sunday, Council Chairman Prof. Abdurrahman Lawan stated that the gesture aims to ensure the beneficiaries enjoy a memorable celebration. He noted that 100 orphans were selected from each district in the area to receive the fabric, with N600,000 set aside for sewing the clothes.
Beyond assisting male orphans, the council also distributed garments to orphaned girls across the region. Additionally, support was extended to community leaders, with 76 village heads receiving 36 bags of pasta, four sacks of millet, and four sacks of maize.
Lawan emphasized that the initiative is part of the council’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of orphans and supporting vulnerable members of the community.
Praising the effort, the District Head of Fagam, Auwal Adamu (Katikan Dutse), commended the council for prioritizing the well-being of orphans, describing the intervention as a step toward reducing food insecurity and fostering economic empowerment in the area.
