The Emir of Gusau, Dr Ibrahim Bello, has died at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness.
He passed away on Friday in Abuja, bringing an end to a decade-long reign as the 16th Emir of Gusau. He had succeeded his father, who died on March 16, 2015.
Before ascending the throne, Bello served as a civil servant in the old Sokoto and Zamfara States, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary. His leadership in the emirate lasted over 10 years.
The spokesperson for Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Sulaiman Idis, confirmed the Emir’s passing and expressed the government’s condolences.
In a tribute, Governor Lawal described the Emir’s death as a personal loss and praised his dedication to the progress of Zamfara State.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness Dr Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” the governor said.
“I express my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the immediate and extended families of the late Emir, the Gusau emirate, and the entire people of Zamfara State.”
The late Emir is remembered as a respected traditional ruler who served his people with humility and wisdom.
