An explosion at Quantum Steel, located along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Road in Ogijo, Ogun State, has left seven workers injured, including three expatriates. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, March 2, 2025, is currently under investigation by the Ogun State Police Command.
The blast, caused by machinery failure, was reported to the Ogijo Police Division by Joseph Adewale, a staff member of the company. Among the injured are four Nigerians, Daniel Bala, 28; Mutiu Olajide, 39; Godwin Solomon, 27; and Maduabuchi Onwe, 27, as well as three expatriates: Ajun Kumar, 37; Chandan Kumar, 50; and Rakash Kumar, 30.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday. She explained that the explosion occurred at approximately 6:30 pm, resulting in severe injuries to the workers.
“All the injured victims were rushed to Rolayo Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding well,” Odutola stated.
She added that detectives visited the scene, conducted an initial assessment, and documented evidence, including photographs. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to ensure compliance with industrial safety regulations.
The incident has raised concerns about workplace safety and the need for stricter enforcement of industrial safety standards to prevent such accidents in the future.
