Excitement Builds as CBN Senior Tennis Championship Serves Off July 21

All eyes are on Abuja as the 46th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria Senior Tennis Championship is set to begin from July 21 to 26, 2025, at the tennis courts of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium. Main draw qualifiers are already underway, adding to the growing anticipation.

The championship, organised by the Nigeria Tennis Federation in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria, remains one of the country’s longest-running and most prestigious tennis tournaments. It has served as a launchpad for several Nigerian tennis stars who have gone on to represent the country in international events including the Davis Cup and the African Games.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali, reiterated the bank’s commitment to youth and national development. She highlighted the championship’s impact in providing a platform for young talents to display their potential and gain national recognition.

With over four decades of consistent impact, the tournament continues to attract top players and upcoming stars. This year’s edition will feature 64 players in the men’s singles and 32 in the women’s singles. The men’s and women’s doubles events will host 32 players each, while the wheelchair tennis category includes 16 players in both the men’s and women’s singles.

While the men’s singles category promises unpredictability, a major spotlight will be on the women’s singles, where a keen contest is expected between two US-based players, former champion Oyinlomo Quadri and defending champion Mary-Love Edwards. Both players rose through the ranks of the CBN Junior Tennis Championship and are now poised to face off on the senior stage.

The event has already generated significant excitement among fans and sports enthusiasts, further cementing its place as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s sporting calendar.
