Kwara State’s Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has shortlisted 1,800 applicants for teaching roles following a rigorous three-month recruitment process. This included online applications, computer-based tests, and physical interviews.
The successful candidates are distributed as follows:
– 790 (44%) for STEM subjects
– 581 for core subjects
– 370 for specialized subjects
– 59 for technical fields
They will be deployed across senior secondary schools in the state’s 16 local government areas based on needs assessment.
Drug Test Begins April 9
Shortlisted applicants must undergo mandatory drug testing to ensure they are fit to work with students. The tests, handled by the NDLEA, are fully funded by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and coordinated by Hon. Mukail Olamilekan Aileru.
Schedule for Drug Test:
– April 9: Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, Patigi
– April 10: Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin
– April 11: Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, Moro
– April 12: Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Ilorin West
NDLEA will send test results directly to TESCOM to prevent falsification. No candidate will receive their result personally.
Applicants Must Sign Six-Year Bond
All successful candidates must sign a six-year no-transfer bond to address the lack of teachers in rural areas. They must also present:
– Medical certificates from state hospitals
– Original credentials and photocopies
– A handwritten letter of job acceptance
Documentation begins alongside the drug testing period at TESCOM headquarters in Ilorin.
Selection Based On Merit, Equity
TESCOM emphasized the process was “100% based on merit, equity, and needs,” with no political interference. The commission praised Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to transparency and fairness, describing him as a “rare leader.”
PLWDs, STEM Teachers Included
Among those shortlisted, 31 are persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), showing inclusive recruitment. The commission also ensured a strong representation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects to enhance education quality across Kwara State.
