Two impostors, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Usman, who falsely posed as investigators of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have been convicted and sentenced by the Kano State High Court.
The EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate secured their conviction on Friday before Justice Nasiru Saminu after they both pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of impersonation.
According to the charge, the duo used forged EFCC identity cards in an attempt to gain credibility while parading themselves as anti-corruption operatives in Kano, an act that contravenes Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.
The charge read: “That you Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, sometime in May 2025, at Kano within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, falsely impersonated to be investigators of the EFCC using a false identity card, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.”
Following their guilty plea, prosecution counsel Idris I. Haruna presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict them accordingly.
Justice Saminu thereafter sentenced both men to six months imprisonment, with an option of a fine of ₦50,000 each.
The EFCC confirmed that the duo was arrested during an operation in Kano before being charged to court and subsequently jailed.
