There were fears of deaths on Wednesday night around the Karu bridge area of the nation’s capital, Abuja, following a devastating fuel tanker accident which has resulted in a catastrophic inferno.
The tanker, reportedly carrying both compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders and liquid fuel, suffered a brake failure before crashing into several vehicles.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as explosions sent fireballs and debris soaring up to 900 meters.
The fire rapidly engulfed multiple vehicles, trapping occupants inside. Emergency responders are battling the blaze and providing medical assistance to victims. The extent of the casualties remains unclear, but authorities fear significant fatalities.
